What 8000 MT/s actually requires
DDR5-8000 is not a JEDEC everyday speed for consumer desktops. It is an XMP overclock that needs:
- 1A CPU memory controller sample that trains cleanly
- 2A motherboard with short, well-tuned traces and a current BIOS
- 3Often a CUDIMM (on-module clock driver) on newer Intel platforms
- 4Two DIMMs preferred β four modules rarely hold extreme bins
- 5Stability testing beyond βit posted onceβ
Micron and module vendors position CUDIMM/CSODIMM as JEDEC-standard client modules with an on-module clock driver for higher-rate client platforms. Physical DDR5 fit alone is not support.

AMD AM5: skip 8000
AM5βs performance story centers on UCLK:MCLK 1:1 near DDR5-6000. Extreme MT/s commonly forces 2:1 controller ratios and long, fragile training. Zen 4/Zen 5 also tend to run CUDIMM in ways that do not deliver Intel-class CKD benefit for everyday buyers.
If EXPO fails at high bins, stabilize with EXPO wonβt enable / unstable kits and prefer DDR5-6000 CL30.

Consider 8000 when all of these are true:

If XMP boot-loops, use XMP unstable / boot loop fix and fall back to 6400/6000 rather than chasing voltages blindly.

Opportunity cost in a tight DRAM market
Consumer DDR5 remains expensive as makers prioritize HBM/AI wafers. Paying a large premium for 8000 instead of:
- moving 32GB β 64GB, or
- upgrading the GPU, or
- buying a QVL 6400 kit that just works
