On many Z890/B860 (LGA1851) boards, DDR5-6000–6400 with Intel XMP 3.0 is a practical high-performance tier. Gains over 5600–6000 are often modest in games — buy a validated dual-stick XMP kit ranked by $/GB, not RGB or extreme 7200+ bins unless your QVL and cooler clearance support them.

Should I buy 32GB or 64GB?

Buy 32GB (2×16GB) for gaming and everyday use. Buy 64GB (2×32GB) for heavy creators, VMs, or larger local AI models. Prefer two sticks over four — four-stick DDR5 often forces lower stable speeds on many boards.

Do I need XMP, or is EXPO fine on Intel?

On Intel boards, enable Intel XMP 3.0. Many kits include both XMP and AMD EXPO — pick XMP in BIOS on LGA1851 / LGA1700 DDR5. Without a profile, the kit boots at slower JEDEC defaults and you lose the 6400 rating.

Is 6400 better than 6000 for AMD AM5?

Usually no. AM5’s safe gaming target remains DDR5-6000 CL30 for UCLK:MCLK 1:1. Many Ryzen chips drop UCLK into 2:1 past that, which can erase the gain — though some AGESA/silicon combos hold 1:1 a bit higher. Prefer DDR5-6000 CL30 for Ryzen; use this page mainly for Intel-leaning builds.
