Data Methodology

Transparency is the foundation of trust. Here is how we collect, validate, and publish RAM pricing data β€” and the standards we hold ourselves to.

Data Source

All product and pricing data is sourced from Amazon.com via a commercial product data API. We do not scrape websites or use unauthorized data collection methods. Our data pipeline runs automatically every morning, refreshing prices across every RAM category, brand, speed tier, and capacity. The entire process completes before US buyers wake up β€” no stale data.

How We Score & Rank Products

πŸ’°

Price Per GB

The total kit price divided by total capacity in gigabytes. This is the most objective value metric β€” it lets you compare a $60 32GB kit against a $40 16GB kit on equal terms. We always use total kit capacity, not per-stick capacity.

⭐

Deal Score

A composite 0–100 score combining price-per-GB relative to the category average, customer rating, and review volume as a reliability signal. Higher is better. Scores above 80 indicate exceptional value; below 60 is fair.

πŸ“ˆ

Buy Signal

Compares today's average $/GB against our historical daily price snapshots. It tells you whether current prices are near a yearly low or elevated β€” helping you time your purchase. Becomes more accurate as our price history grows.

Quality Standards

Price validation

Prices outside realistic ranges for RAM are flagged and excluded from statistics. This prevents outliers from distorting averages.

Specification normalization

Memory type, form factor, and ECC status are normalized to canonical values. Brand names are standardized across different listing formats.

RAM-only filter

Products are filtered to exclude SSDs, flash drives, graphics cards, and other non-RAM items that occasionally appear in memory search results.

Availability verification

Products that consistently disappear from search results are verified via direct lookup before removal. Network errors do not trigger removal β€” only confirmed unavailability does.

Deduplication

Duplicate product listings are identified and removed. Each unique product is tracked with its own price history.

Spec completeness

Products with missing critical specifications are shown in listings but excluded from aggregate statistics to keep category averages accurate.

Known Limitations

  • Prices reflect Amazon list prices and do not include limited-time coupons, Lightning Deals, or promotional discounts active at time of purchase.
  • Specifications are extracted from product listing text and may occasionally contain errors from the original seller.
  • We currently track Amazon.com (US) only. Prices in other regions or from other retailers will differ.
  • The buy signal becomes more accurate as our price history grows. Early signals are indicative only.
  • Availability is checked daily but can change between refreshes. Always verify stock on Amazon before purchasing.

Methodology FAQ

How often are prices updated?

Prices are refreshed daily via our automated pipeline. The entire process β€” price refresh, availability verification, catalog maintenance, and market snapshot β€” completes every morning before US buyers wake up.

What is a deal score?

The deal score (0–100) is a composite metric that combines price-per-GB relative to the category average, customer rating, and review count as a reliability signal. A score of 80+ indicates an excellent deal; 60–79 is good; below 60 is fair.

How do you determine if a product is in stock?

A product is marked "In Stock" when it appears in Amazon search results with delivery information in our latest daily refresh. Products that consistently disappear from search results are verified via direct lookup before being removed from our database.

Why do some products have missing specifications?

Specifications are extracted from Amazon product listings. Some listings have incomplete or non-standard formatting. Products with missing critical specs are still shown in listings but excluded from aggregate statistics to keep averages accurate.

What is the 52-week buy signal?

The buy signal compares today's average $/GB against historical daily snapshots from the past year. It tells you whether current prices are near a yearly low (great time to buy) or elevated (consider waiting). It becomes more accurate as our price history grows.

Do you accept sponsored placements or paid rankings?

No. Every ranking on this site is computed from price and specification data alone. We do not accept sponsored placements, paid rankings, or manufacturer relationships that could influence our content. Our only revenue is Amazon affiliate commissions on purchases made through our links.
