Win 4’s tiny chassis runs desktop Windows with a slide keyboard — background services + AAA quickly fill 16GB SKUs. 32GB models mostly eliminate commit thrash; remaining hitching is usually UMA undersizing (textures) or microSD bottlenecks. Do not confuse slow card I/O with “needs more RAM.”
What to buy or configure
If you multitask (browser + Discord + AAA), buy the 32GB configuration once — you cannot add modules later. 16GB is fine for lighter indies/emulation if you keep UMA at 6G and trim startup apps. Expandable alternatives: Framework 13 or SER/UM mini-PCs.

GPD Win 4 is a slide-out Windows handheld on Ryzen 6800U/7840U-class APUs with soldered LPDDR5-6400. Factory configurations land at 16GB or 32GB; neither is user-upgradable. Editorial value is SKU selection + UMA tables, not kit shopping.

Tuning notes: Enter BIOS (Delete at boot) → Advanced → UMA Frame Buffer Size. Use 6G on 16GB models; 8G is reasonable on 32GB models. Higher than that on 16GB invites Windows starvation identical to Ally’s failure mode.
