Minecraft RAM allocation & JVM guides
Pick a loader or modpack, size the JVM heap safely, copy G1GC/ZGC arguments, then shop a dual-channel kit large enough for the game plus Windows.

Minecraft allocation FAQ
- How much RAM should I allocate to Minecraft?
- Match the pack: Vanilla/Fabric often need 2–4GB JVM heap; heavy modpacks like ATM10, StoneBlock 3, or Vault Hunters need 8GB+. Always leave at least half of physical RAM for Windows and Discord — if Xmx is 8GB, buy a 16GB+ dual-channel kit.
- Is more RAM always better for Minecraft?
- No. Oversizing the heap (12GB+) often makes garbage-collection pauses longer. Prefer the pack sweet spot plus a tuned G1GC or Generational ZGC profile on Java 21.
- Why does dual-channel system RAM matter?
- Chunk generation and entity ticking are memory-bandwidth sensitive. A matched 2-stick kit improves 1% lows versus a single stick even when JVM allocation is unchanged.
