How do I know what RAM is compatible with my system?

The key factors are your CPU socket and motherboard. Intel LGA1700 (12th–14th gen) supports DDR4 or DDR5 depending on the board. AMD AM5 (Ryzen 7000/9000) requires DDR5. How much RAM do I need for gaming in 2026?

Should I buy DDR4 or DDR5 RAM?

For new builds on Intel 12th gen+ or AMD AM5, DDR5 is the right choice — it is now close in price to DDR4 and offers higher bandwidth. What is the best RAM speed for AMD Ryzen?

For AMD AM5 (Ryzen 7000/9000), DDR5-6000 CL30 is the sweet spot. It aligns with the Infinity Fabric 1:1 ratio, giving the best balance of bandwidth and latency. For AM4 (Ryzen 1000–5000), DDR4-3600 CL16 is optimal. Going faster than these sweet spots offers diminishing returns.

What RAM speed is best for Intel?

For Intel 12th–14th gen (LGA1700), DDR5-5600 to DDR5-6000 is the sweet spot on DDR5 boards. On DDR4 boards, DDR4-3200 to DDR4-3600 is ideal. For Intel Core Ultra 200S (LGA1851), DDR5-5600 to DDR5-6400 is recommended.
